Understanding overtime pay planner

What this calculation is for
An overtime plan shows the gross earnings associated with a repeatable work schedule. It separates regular hours from extra hours so a larger weekly paycheck is not confused with a change in base hourly pay.
How the method works
Regular hours use the base rate. Overtime hours use the entered multiplier, and weekly earnings are annualized over the weeks worked before other annual pay is added. The displayed model uses: Regular hourly rate × regular hours + overtime rate × overtime hours
A worked example
For an illustrative overtime pay planner scenario, use Base hourly rate: 28 $/hour; Regular hours each week: 40 hours; Overtime hours each week: 6 hours; Overtime pay multiplier: 1.5 ×; Weeks worked this year: 48 weeks; Other pay per year: 0 $. The modeled estimated annual gross pay is $65,856. These are example assumptions, not current prices, official benefit amounts or personalized advice.
Assumptions and real-world differences
The tool does not decide whether overtime is legally owed. Daily thresholds, exempt status, blended regular rates, double time and jurisdiction-specific rules require separate verification. Assumes the overtime multiplier you enter; eligibility, jurisdiction-specific rules and tax withholding are not assessed.
Using the overtime pay planner estimate
Start with the assumptions that match your situation, then read the headline together with the detailed breakdown. This tool’s baseline calculation uses base hourly rate, regular hours each week, overtime hours each week, overtime pay multiplier, weeks worked this year, other pay per year. Changing an input changes only the modeled consequences of that input; it does not retrieve a quote or validate your eligibility.

Frequently asked questions
- Is a 1.5 multiplier automatically correct?
- No. It is an editable assumption, not a determination of the employment rules applicable to your job.
- Which inputs should I check before using this overtime pay planner estimate?
- Check base hourly rate, regular hours each week, overtime hours each week, overtime pay multiplier, weeks worked this year, other pay per year. Match each field’s unit and time period, then compare the detailed rows rather than treating the headline alone as the complete answer.
- Do the example defaults represent a recommended plan?
- No. Defaults make the method inspectable. Replace them with relevant assumptions and test a less favorable case before making a decision.
