Understanding lodging and stay budget — two-scenario comparison
Everyday editorial team · GEOINNOVATION CO., LTD · Published · Updated
What this calculation is for
A lodging budget combines nightly rates with the fees and taxes that can be missing from an advertised price. Dividing a shared booking among guests is different from multiplying a per-person quote.
How the method works
The entered nightly rate, recurring nightly fees, tax assumption and fixed booking fees produce a stay total. The guest count provides an even split of that shared amount. The displayed model uses: Nightly room rate, fees and estimated tax multiplied by nights, plus fixed fees; divide by guests.
A worked example
For an illustrative lodging and stay budget scenario, use Number of nights: 5 nights; Average nightly rate: 180 $; Lodging tax estimate: 12 %; Nightly resort or cleaning fee: 30 $; One-time booking fees: 60 $; Guests sharing total: 2 people. The modeled total lodging estimate is $1,236. These are example assumptions, not current prices, official benefit amounts or personalized advice.
Assumptions and real-world differences
Real lodging taxes can apply to only some charges or vary by stay length. Deposits, refunds, cleaning charges, exchange fees and cancellation terms require review of the booking contract. Actual taxes, occupancy rules and platform charges vary by property and destination.
Building two independent scenarios
Scenario A and Scenario B each have a complete set of inputs for this lodging and stay budget calculation. Change several inputs in B when comparing genuinely different plans, then inspect the B-minus-A headline difference and the detailed rows. When multiple inputs change, the total difference cannot be attributed to just one of them.

Frequently asked questions
- Is a cleaning fee always charged each night?
- No. Enter a one-time cleaning fee as a fixed cost rather than a recurring nightly fee when that matches the booking.
- Which inputs should I check before using this lodging and stay budget estimate?
- Check number of nights, average nightly rate, lodging tax estimate, nightly resort or cleaning fee, one-time booking fees, guests sharing total. Match each field’s unit and time period, then compare the detailed rows rather than treating the headline alone as the complete answer.
- Why is this different from the one-factor comparison?
- The one-factor tool changes only number of nights. This version lets all model inputs differ, so it is more flexible but does not isolate the effect of any single change.
